Yay photography! I miss it, too. I signed up for a History of Photography course for next semester...though that won't involve a darkroom or taking any pictures. I also had to write poems for my writing class tomorrow, and one is about a darkroom. (Though I'm not much of a poet, ha.) P.S. Your website is awesome.

bankruptcy implies one has more debt than assets. it means one's worth is less than the amount they owe. the interesting thing about emotions is that, while they are free, they have value. anything of value becomes such when there is some level of consensus in that value. generally the more rare something is AND the more it is desire the greater the value. if we are to believe we, in our being, are to be valued to others, we run the risk of endeavoring to emphasize that which we believe others desire and upon which they will place value. certainly happiness can come from such a dynamic but one becomes a bit disconnected from that which is their essence. mostly we end up realizing, in the long run for some, in the short run for some, in the middle distances for some...in a mix for all...that it is best to be present to where we are at any given moment, allowing the free emotions to freely flow. after all, the Latin word for emotion is 'emotus', which literally means to move out from within. simply said, emotions will flow out whether we like it or not. the joy is in the awareness of the life and color that emotion provides. and, interestingly, a key thread to all of maslow's hierachy is the fact that emotions exist at every level.

i think about this all the time. i love my psych classes. some of the theories are obviously dated and odd, but i think you can use them all to inform your own perspective. you might also be interested in Rogers and some existential psychologists like Yalom.
